WIAW: No cravings

I am officially 29 weeks pregnant and starting to be less interested in food. How is that possible???? I literally open the fridge a million times a day and nothing jumps out at me. My cravings are minimal and I can’t decide what to eat this past week.

WHAT-I-ATE-WEDNESDAY-NEW-BUTTON-PEAS-AND-CRAYONS

I think you will understand what I’m talking about through my food choices from Monday. They are RANDOM and weird to me but I thought I would share anyways.

I’m linking up with the What I ate Wednesday Crew over on Arman’s Blog today to share my food journal with you from Monday.

When my alarm went off I wanted to sleep longer. Usually I pop right up but Monday I was struggling. Probably because my crazy dog woke up at 240am to go out and pee but then refused to come inside and instead howled at a ball that was in the brooke behind our house. Needless to say I chased him around the yard for 5 minutes and basically did sprints until I managed to grab him and pull him in the house!!

I wasn’t happy that I was up for an hour in the middle of the night.

IMG_9999

Sorry for the rambles but it threw my sleep off. At least she smiled at breakfast!! But then again who doesn’t smile for pancakes and bacon…

Iced coffee was necessary first thing along with a LARGE glass of water.

IMG_9633

I ate my usual eggs, sautéed spinach with potatoes. It works for me on Mondays.

After group power I was STARVINGGGG. Probably because I dripped sweat for the entire hour of class. I refueled with a banana and an Oatmega bar and a few strawberries.

IMG_7725

Lunch was all about combining leftovers. I had 1/2 of this sandwich.

IMG_0003

Some salad and a piece of chicken marsala.

IMG_9581

Plus a piece of toast with peanut butter.

IMG_9917

Talk about random.

After doing computer work, blog stuff and paying bills I needed a snack around 3pm. To be honest I wasn’t in the mood for anything. Nothing looked appealing in the fridge so I chose a yogurt parfait. It’s always satisfying and filling.

IMG_9741

Ava and I took Cooper for a long 25 minute walk, it was beautiful out and he needs the exercise daily. When I got home I didn’t really want to make dinner but Marc asked for meatballs.

So I made some turkey meatballs with pasta and sauce. Plus some brussel sprouts on the side. It was actually really good!

IMG_0017

At around 7:00pm my body had enough and I sat down on the couch. I literally didn’t want to get up but I did so that I could put Ava to bed and clean up the messy house.

I was craving chocolate but didn’t want to give in to any unhealthy treats so I whipped up some oatmeal and threw a 1/2 scoop of shakeology and some peanut butter in it.

IMG_0021

I was expecting it to be amazing but I think I put too much shakeology and not enough oats and peanut butter. I will definitely be making it again and tweaking my recipe.

Whats something yummy you ate this week?

( at 27 weeks)

Symptoms:

I must have jinxed myself with my last update when I had NO symptoms. At around 27 weeks I experienced a little round ligament pain which only lasted about 24 hours. On Saturday afternoon I also started experiencing foot pain on my right heel. I know the foot pain was due to wearing heels, tight calves from my workouts and from standing too long. The round ligament pain was expected at this point. I gotta imagine this little boy is growing at a faster pace and my belly needs to keep up.

After diligent stretching & massage on my heel thanks to Marc and a ball I roll under my foot my heel started feeling better after a week.

Besides that, I’m not achy and have been feeling pretty good.  Fingers are crossed.

Food Aversions:

I don’t have any particular foods off the top of my head that I don’t want to eat but Marc mentioned chicken fajitas to me the other night and I gagged at the thought of them. I don’t like leftover green beans and I’m never in the mood for Chinese or Mexican food unless it’s home cooked chili.

Food Cravings:

Yogurt is my biggest craving and milk too with cereal.

  • i love chicken, steak & fish
  • Avocado on toast has been one of my favorite snacks
  • along with peanut butter and bread!
  • Breakfast is still my favorite meal
  • Give me ALL the oranges
  • Brownies :) After this past weekend of a little indulging, I was happy to be back to my challenge group of clean eating. I’m totally getting the unnecessary sugar out of my diet.

Sleep:

Sleep has been great! I sleep like a rock when my head hits that pillow. Marc and I have been rotating who gets up with Ava so that we can both get some extra sleep on the days that my work schedule allows it.

I haven’t gotten up to pee much these past 2 weeks which is shocking but as soon as my eyes open in the morning I have to go!

There were a couple nights I went to bed a little later due to the party in my belly. Baby boy has been moving up a storm :)

Maternity clothes:

I love maternity clothes and I’m enjoying my pants more then anything. They are comfortable and allow my belly to breathe.

IMG_9955

Stretch marks:

None yet!

Do I Miss anything:

I miss exercising normally. Yes I still workout but I’ve made numerous modifications. Ab routines are out and so are any deep lunges/squats and jumping.

I miss a good cold cut sandwich and although I could buy organic cold cuts I can live without it but a nice deli sandwich would be good every once in a while.

Movement:

The belly movements have become pretty fun for me. I love feeling this little baby move and it’s reassuring that he’s doing well in there. Some of his movements are crazy and it seems like he’s non stop at times. I used to call Ava the kick boxer but this little guy might be giving her a run for her money.

The other night I swear I felt a leg. I had never felt anything like that before even with Ava’s pregnancy and it kind of freaked me out.

Baby Items Purchased:

We bought a rug for the baby’s room but Ava loved it so much so we gave it to her haha. SOOO I guess no new purchases for baby boy this time. We are going to buy another one for him though, don’t worry. We are also looking for a new small crib that we can temporarily use until Ava is out of hers.

IMG_9953

(28 weeks)

Wedding rings ON or OFF:

ON

Belly Button IN or OUT?

My belly button is mostly an outie. I do not like this. It looks weird and feels weird!!!!!! I’m nervous for how it’s going to look in 2 months from now :(

I’m Looking Forward To:

I am looking forward to my next ultrasound.  it’s always reassuring to see our baby boy and it seems like it’s been forever since we had that opportunity.

Random Things:

Yesterday I had my 28-week sugar/diabetes test. They basically give you a drink that has 100g of sugar in it (that’s about 4 1/2 tablespoons of sugar) and you have to chug it then wait an hour to have blood work.

I dreaded this appointment because I was so nauseous when I did it with Ava and almost threw up.

This one was actually WAY easier. The drink wasn’t as sugary and the nurse told me when I did it with Ava we had to fast before and I didn’t have to do it this time so that was great!

The baby is measuring right on track and his heartbeat was strong!!! All good news.

With just 12 weeks left I’m starting to get anxious, nervous, excited and all that comes with expecting a child. I know I’ve been through it before but it’s going to be different and it’s going to make things different. While I know change is good, change takes time for everyone to adjust and I guess that’s the part I’m nervous for. I know Ava will be a good big sister and Cooper is a pro by now so it gets me excited to expand our family.

I am going to try to soak up all the time I have now with Ava being the only child and let her have some fun this spring ;)

WIAW: Salads are in right now

I am officially in my 3rd and final trimester. How did that happen?

I’m super excited that I am closer to meet this little baby boy but part of me feels like I have so much I want to accomplish before he arrives. My To-Do list has gotten smaller but time is speeding up… ahhh.

WHAT-I-ATE-WEDNESDAY-NEW-BUTTON-PEAS-AND-CRAYONS

Anyways, It’s Wednesday which is awesome and I’m linking up with the What I ate Wednesday Crew over on Laura’s Blog today to share my food journal with you from Monday.

Mondays are always busy for me. I rarely have time to sit down until Ava naps around 1:30 and by then, this mama can’t wait to put her feet up for a bit.

My morning started off with my usual 2 eggs, spinach with olive oil & potatoes.

IMG_8637

I taught Group Power at 730am and for some reason my body was spent at the end. I didn’t go heavier in weights but I was sweaty and my muscles were wiped.

I refueled with a banana & avocado toast with scrambled eggs & a bite of a leftover quest bar (sad there wasn’t more)

IMG_6568

IMG_8642

Ava and I headed back to the YMCA around 10:15 for me second class. This girl was full of energy and basically ran in the building. She’s getting harder to keep up with these days.

After my class we headed home and decided to eat some lunch on our front porch.

IMG_9976 IMG_9974

It was beautiful out. I had 2 lovely lunch guests and we thoroughly enjoyed eating outside and getting some fresh air.

I ate a BBQ Chicken salad with romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli slaw & honey mustard dressing.

IMG_9972

This salad is amazing and I’m slightly obsessed with this honey mustard dressing by bolthouse farms. I have had this salad 3 times in the last week!

Salads are working so well for me right now and if I’m craving any healthy food I’m going with it.

IMG_7585

I also had an orange.

I have a little story about that orange….. I pulled an orange out of the fridge and I swear I put it on the table. I’m pretty sure Ava hid it on me and I couldn’t find it anywhere. Luckily we had more in the fridge and I ended up finding it 6 hours later behind our radiator in the kitchen!!

My afternoon snack came on the earlier side. Probably because salads are temporarily filling if you ask me and there weren’t any carbs.

I decided to have a bowl of oatmeal which I haven’t had in a while. I had it with a scoop of peanut butter and strawberries on top.

IMG_8135

Once Ava was up from her nap we headed outside to play and to walk Cooper. The weather was AMAZING and couldn’t have been more perfect.

Dinner was a simple fast meal. Pesto baked salmon, baked sweet potatoes, & asparagus. I ate a ton of asparagus before I took this picture!! oops.

IMG_9978

Even though this picture isn’t pretty it was delicious and we all agreed the salmon was perfect.

Around 7pm I crashed. My body said no more playing, walking, exercising, and I sat myself on the couch. I’m thankful that Marc can take over when I’m really tired. My body can only go so far these days and I’m OK with that.

I watched a little bit of random TV and snacked on a greek yogurt with berries and granola plus some cheerios.

IMG_9979

I’ve been trying to stay away from granola when it comes to my yogurts but it’s so good I can’t stop!!

Your turn: What’s something yummy you ate this week?

Are you into salads right now?

Things I’m loving this week…

It’s Monday and I’m actually excited.. I think that has to do with the sun shining and the fact that it’s going to be 75 degrees today. That just makes me happy :)

I haven’t shared a post of any of my favorite things lately and I have a bunch of things I have been seriously LOVING over the past couple of weeks.

Things I’m loving this week…..

Avocado Toast

IMG_9839

This stuff is so good. I simply just mash some avocado on bread or toast and sprinkle a little sea salt on top. If I need protein I usually add an egg or some egg whites.

IMG_9635

You can’t beat it for a healthy snack!!! I have eaten some form of this toast every day this week :)

Cooper in sunglasses

IMG_9815

You guys, how could you not smile at this picture? I know its from Easter but I can’t help but look at this and smile big. I love this guy and he sure does bring a lot of love and laughter to our family!

Warmer weather

IMG_9764

Even though it hasn’t been exactly HOT, I’m appreciating the warmer temps and the opportunity to take my kids outside and play. The playgrounds & parks are our favorite place to go for an afternoon trip. I can’t wait for trips to the beach.

Wholly Guacamole

IMG_9647

Speaking of avocados, we also love guacamole in our house. These single serving packets of guacamole from Costco are clutch. At 100 calories a serving it’s a great travel snack, it’s nutritious and super tasty!! We just got more this past week and we all love them!!

Chocolate Shakeology

IMG_6906

I have been using Shakeology for well over a year now and it has helped me with cravings, energy and also it keeps me satisfied. I love knowing I’m getting in healthy vitamins and a good dose of protein. I have also got Marc hooked and my family uses it on occasion. I have been really enjoying my chocolate no bake protein bites as well and I can’t help but be excited to try out some new fun recipes this summer!!

Boot Camp Workouts

These past few weeks we have had some amazing boot camp workouts. I’m not participating in the entire class but here is a quick look at what some of my stats looked like.

IMG_9843

Could you imagine if I did the entire workout??? There’s a great balance of cardio & fat burn. Plus a lot of calories can be burned if you really push it!

Cinnamon Bites

I tried this brand a few months back and bought the chocolate ones which I liked a lot. They do have wheat flour in them but I love that they are packed with sunflower seeds. If you like sunflower seeds then you will love these. Each serving has 6g protein and 9g of healthy fats!!!

IMG_9929

I hope you all have a great week!

Are there any new things you are loving this week?

Beets Blu PagerTag Review

Do you know every 2 seconds someone loses a cellphone?

I didn’t but it sounds about accurate!! I misplace my phone and keys constantly, do you??

IMG_9691

I was given an opportunity to review the Beets BLU PagerTag. I jumped all over the opportunity because Marc and I lose our keys/phones ALL the time. I wonder if it has anything to do with our 2 year old?

I set up the Beets BLU PagerTag with an iPhone 6 as a key finder since that’s usually what we tend to lose.

The general setup is fairly easy, but I have yet to set up specific “regions” for the phone and pager tag. I guess I’m not really tech savvy but there are a lot of functions with the app that I haven’t gotten the opportunity to use.

IMG_9693

When setting up the PagerTag I wanted to hit a button on my phone and be able to find my keys quickly. The Key Finder makes a loud beeping noise which made it easy to find my keys inside the house. So right there it’s worth it.

The Tag can be attached to anything you might happen to lose track of. In our house our keys are constantly misplaced as well as our phones. I am definitely going to try on of our phones next.

Once you download the app, it has a simple feature to send an alert to the unit that is attached to (for me) my keys. To test the range of the PagerTag my husband tested it from our bedroom and our keys were on our key rack by our back door. It was very easy to locate them by sending the alert from my Iphone.

You can also hook up additional PagerTags to the same app for multiple items, such as phone, keys, gym bag, purse. Their are tons of possibilities there.

IMG_9695

Why do I need a Beets BLU PagerTag?

  • If you can’t find your keys in a rush or you can’t find them in your bag
  • if you left your wallet or purse behind or misplaced it
  • if you attach PagerTag to your travel bag, your phone will notify you when it is nearby at the baggage claim area
  • if your tagged pet is outside of a set range
  • if your item has been stolen

IMG_9694

Product info:

  • Keep track of your valuables (keys, wallets, suitcase, laptop, bag, backpack- whatever is tagged with PaperTag)
  • Detect the proximity of lost or forgotten items wirelessly
  • Alert you when your item shifts outside of a connection range (about 15 feet/5 meters)
  • Send sounds and enable an LED light to alert you
  • Save the battery life using Bluetooth Low Energy protocol
  • Save you a lot of time and anxiety
  • Can be used as Android Trusted Device for automatic screen lock (android 5.0 or later required)

IMG_9692

For only $24.95 the Beets Blu PagerTag would make a great gift for someone! I’m thinking I may get my mom or dad one for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day :)

We all lose things right?

WIAW: Eating for 2

Thank goodness this week is going fast. Last week was a long one and I’m happy this one is on the speedy side.

I want to throw a couple fist pumps in the air for warmer weather. Do you feel me or what???

I know I’m random but that’s me… now since it’s Wednesday lets get into the food talk.

WHAT-I-ATE-WEDNESDAY-NEW-BUTTON-PEAS-AND-CRAYONS

I’m linking up with the What I ate Wednesday Crew over on Arman’s Blog today to share my food journal with you from Monday.

People make the comment a lot about eating for 2 when you are pregnant and that’s not really the case. You only need about an extra 300 calories a day but let me tell you some days I do feel like I am eating for 2 and my appetite has been increasing.

On Monday I woke up at 5:45am for 2 reasons. 1. My body knew I had to get going and ready to teach our new Group Power workout and 2. I had to pee.

I woke up a little tired but chugged some water and sipped on a little bit of coffee as I whipped together breakfast.

IMG_9912

2 eggs, sautéed spinach with olive oil & potatoes. This is my regular simple healthy & filling breakfast.

I headed to the YMCA around 7am to teach GROUP POWER. It was an awesome workout and I’m sure every inch of my body will feel it tomorrow.

IMG_9913

I refueled with a banana and a chocolate shakeology which is hard to see in this picture.

IMG_6296

and some random the Good Bean Sea Salt chickpeas. Ava was eating them and she made them sound good!

We headed back to the Y for my second class. I got a good sweat and I left the class STARVING. I said it to Ava on the car ride home and she said Mommy are you starving and I said yesssssss. She’s too funny.

I quickly came home to heat up some leftovers.

IMG_9915

Chicken Marsala, roasted potatoes, carrots & broccoli. I wish I could have had seconds but there was none left.

I also ate this delicious orange.

IMG_7585

I’m on an orange kick and I feel like my day is not complete without one. Costco sells them in a giant box so it will last me a couple weeks!

My metabolism must’ve been kicked in high gear because my hunger came a lot quicker then it normally does. Around 2:15 I needed a snack.

I opted for a peanut butter sandwich. I needed something that would fill me up for a while.

IMG_9918

In the late afternoon we went for a long walk with Cooper. As much as my body didn’t want to move, I knew he needed the exercise so we made it happen. I literally was spent after the walk but it was time to cook dinner.

I decided to make a simple lean beef taco salad. We topped our salad with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, salsa, ground beef & guacamole. It was so delicious. I also had tortilla chips with this and a second serving :)

IMG_9921

Because this day needed another meal I snacked on a yogurt with mixed berries & granola while Marc and I watched the episode of Scandal from last Thursday.

IMG_9922

WOW it was a good one. If you haven’t seen the show I definitely recommend you watch it on Netflix. This season has been awesome.

Your turn: What’s something delicious you have eaten this week?

What is your favorite night time snack?

How I handle a sick child

I apologize for not posting earlier. To be honest I have been consumed with taking care of poor sick Ava this past week so I feel like I’ve been MIA from everything for a while. I wrote this post last Wednesday in the midst of a stressful week. I am happy to say Ava is finally feeling better and we are off to a great start on this Monday.

_____________________________________________________________________

I am writing this post so that I can keep myself sane and somewhat vent about having a sick child.

Let me just say it’s been the hardest part of parenthood for me. Ava has had a fair amount of illnesses since she was born and I find it to be the most stressful and frustrating part of parenting. I have no control and the only thing I can do is try to help her feel comfortable. I find myself getting so stressed out because most of the time there’s nothing I can do but wait for her to get better.

I want to say Ava has a weak immune system, but I don’t believe that. She’s a healthy eater, she’s active on a daily basis and she sleeps well. She’s a happy energetic kid and it doesn’t make sense.

The times that she gets sick are usually when she doesn’t nap or stays up too late 1-2 days in a row. That’s probably our fault because we happen to be out at a party or traveling when her schedule gets thrown off. Sometimes we can’t help that but it usually results in a run down tired kid that ends up getting sick.

It feels like we just got over the stomach flu and here we are again, home sick with a nasty cold again. I took Ava to the Doctor on Friday and she had bronchitis so we had to do some nebulizer treatments daily. I honestly feel like this cold is harder to deal with then the stomach flu. She’s more miserable, cranky and I can’t seem to keep her comfortable. With the stomach flu I just had to feed her a bland diet and push the fluids.

FullSizeRender

There are so many families with kids that don’t get sick as much as Ava and I sort of envy that. I find myself comparing Ava to them and question if I’m doing something wrong as a parent. Why is my kid ALWAYS sick? I wonder if there’s something I can do better or change?

I guess it’s the cards I was dealt with and it’s making me a stronger mom.

BUT……I can’t help but get frustrated when Ava starts sneezing & coughing because I know the next few days to a week are going to be super challenging.

She’s not an easy sick patient.. but then again who is!?

Sometimes I want to blame other parents for bringing there sick kids places when they should be home resting. I understand we still have to function with our daily lives but what happened to keeping your kid home when they are hacking up a lung?? It’s not healthy to drag your kid all over town to run errands or so you can go work out at the gym while your kid cries miserably at daycare. It’s not fair. Kids for the most part don’t cover their mouths when they cough and they wipe their bugars all over themselves and the toys they play with. It’s gross and it’s not healthy.

Maybe you don’t agree with me maybe I’m overreacting?!

I would love to get some more opinions because like I said I am venting and I needed to let out some of my thoughts so that I can move on and let this spring and summer weather bring me some health!!!

For all you moms out there with a child who gets sick frequently, how do you deal? Do you find yourself getting frustrated?

Baby #2: Pregnancy Update Weeks 25 & 26

These last 2 weeks have been great in the pregnancy world and I credit it to sleeping well. I’m trying to avoid any type of toddler illnesses that are going around. Ava’s been sick again this week so that’s been a challenge.

I am feeling more pregnant these days and my bump seems to be growing at a faster rate. I feel like my clothing options are becoming limited.

Now that I am nearing the end of the 2nd trimester I figured I would share an update with you.

PREGNANCY UPDATE 25 & 26 WEEKS

The Baby is the size of a HEAD OF LETTUCE weighing a little over 2 lbs

Weight gained

15 lbs which is about exactly what I gained with Ava at this point!! Kinda crazy to me that the weight is the same because I feel like my belly is bigger this time around :)

Gender:

It’s a BOY!!!

IMG_9838

(Picture taken at 25 weeks)

Workouts

My workouts this past week were back to normal

here’s how they looked:

WEDNESDAY 1 hour Group Power Strength training class plus 20 minute walk with Cooper

THURSDAY Fit For Life class & Boot camp class and a 20 minute walk with Cooper in the afternoon

FRIDAY 25 minute Cardio Boxing workout at home

SATURDAY REST DAY

SUNDAY 1 hour group power practice session for our new workout

MONDAY Fit For Life class & Group Power class, 20 minute walk with Cooper

TUESDAY 20 Minute walk with Cooper & Boot Camp Class

IMG_9822

(Before one of my group power classes at 25 weeks)

My only form of cardio was from walking and boot camp. I think that’s probably how it’s going to stay the rest of this pregnancy with the occasional boxing and elliptical workout throw in the mix, but for the most part walking works for me!

Symptoms:

These past 2 weeks have been pretty good. Besides using the bathroom more frequently and being tired I haven’t experienced any big symptoms. It kinda seems weird that I haven’t had round ligament pain in my stomach area, or even back pain. Fingers are crossed because that’s a good thing!!

Food Aversions:

I can’t say I consistently have had any food aversions. Some leftover veggies aren’t appealing like green beans and squash. That happens to be when I’m not pregnant so I’m not sure this counts.

Food Cravings:

I have tried to control my sweet tooth this past week. I know, I know, it’s sad that I haven’t made brownies in a couple weeks but it feels good. I did have carvel ice cream cake once and ice cream another night so I’m definitely not 100% avoiding the sweets.

  • I’ve been enjoying Salads. Salads that I don’t make to be precise. I am totally on board with this craving. It’s healthy and simple.
  • Chicken & Steak
  • Avocado… any way.
  • Breakfast foods, eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns..etc.
  • POTATOES… all of them
  • Yogurt parfaits with lots of granola
  • FRUIT especially oranges.
  • Cookie dough quest bar. I had one this past week and it was pretty amazing. I am refraining from buying more though because I will want one every day.
  • CEREAL with milk. I love plain cheerios with milk and had it 3x this past week, thanks to Ava!!

Sleep:

WEEK 25 I was craving sleep. I think that’s partially do to the fact that Ava had been sleeping pretty poorly this past month. She was waking up with a wet diaper and wanted to be changed. Although she goes back to sleep, mama does not and I get very upset about it haha. Thank goodness I have been able to nap

WEEK 26 was much better. Ava slept so I did too. I actually only woke up a few nights to pee once so that was a plus and the other nights I got a solid 8 hours woohoo. When I sleep well I’m unstoppable and I love that feeling.

Maternity clothes:

I love maternity clothes. Not only are the comfortable but they make me feel somewhat normal. When I was wearing my old clothes and stretching them out.. I felt gross. I felt like I was meant to be in a bigger size and it just didn’t feel right. I’m stupid for not buying stuff earlier.

Some of the maternity clothes I have are clothes I can wear post-pregnancy too which is great!

Stretch marks:

None yet!

Do I Miss anything:

I was missing laying on my belly for a while but I have adapted to side sleeping and it’s been great!! my sleep has definitely improved.

I seriously miss a lot of exercises, especially core work. I am super limited but I feel good demonstrating still so I guess that’s a good thing.

My pushups and planks are getting weaker and weaker. Probably because my 15lb belly is weighing me down.

Movement:

I have been feeling a lot of belly rolls these past few weeks. Baby Boy startles me when I’m teaching and training. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable!

IMG_9885 (1)

(Picture taken at 26 weeks )

Baby Items Purchased:

I haven’t purchased anything in a while but I’m looking forward to getting his room all set up!!

Wedding rings ON or OFF:

ON

Belly Button IN or OUT?

My belly button is mostly an outie. This is one of the weirdest things for me this pregnancy and I’m totally not liking it.

I’m Looking Forward To:

I’m looking forward to the rest of the second trimester which is coming to an end. I hope I continue to be symptom free and I hope my workouts can stay the same for the next month or so. I feel like I’m in a good routine.

I am actually not looking forward to my next dr appointment because I have to do the diabetes test which requires drinking “the drink” that contains 100g of sugar. Last time with Ava I felt so sick and almost threw up. SOOO… I’m not really excited for it.

Random Things:

I ordered a rug for the baby’s room which was very exciting and to be honest I don’t know if it’s going to match the walls. I was so obsessed with the material and softness of the rug that I wasn’t paying attention to the color so well. Fingers crossed it works.

I haven’t really done anything to the babies room yet, but I anticipate a lot of baby productivity this month!!!

WIAW: Salad & cake = balance

Who doesn’t love to talk about food? I mean we think about food quite a bit so that means we should talk about it right?

I had no food game plan going into Monday but it turned out to be a good day of eats in my book.

WHAT-I-ATE-WEDNESDAY-NEW-BUTTON-PEAS-AND-CRAYONS

I’m linking up with the What I ate Wednesday Crew over on Laura’s Blog today to share my food journal with you from Monday.

Breakfast: 2 Eggs with Peppers & Potatoes

This is a typical breakfast for me. I usually eat some sort of veggie with eggs and potatoes daily. It works, it’s easy, and I am always satisfied.

Snack: Toast with avocado & Egg and a bowl of plain cheerios and milk

This was like 2 snacks but after a tough Group Power workout my body needed some good fuel. My body craved milk so I went with it and I was really loving the cheerios. Thanks Ava for sharing!

Lunch: Salad with mixed greens, roasted red peppers, artichokes, grilled chicken & balsamic dressing

My dad had watched Ava for me while I taught my second fitness class. She has a cold and it was best to keep her home. He went to Firehouse Deli and bought me my favorite salad. YUMMM.

Ava and I also split an orange. It was a juicy one and I’m really digging the citrus these days.

Snack: Yogurt parfait.. greek yogurt, strawberries & granola

Ava took a nap and I did computer & blog work in the afternoon. This snack is pretty much routine for me now and I just mix up the fruit depending on what we have.

Dinner: Turkey Chili with Brown Rice

IMG_9327

I wasn’t sure if I was feeling chili or not but it was a good choice. All of us gobbled up our bowls and of course left room for some dessert.

Dessert: Carvel Ice Cream Cake

IMG_9876

Monday was my younger brother’s birthday so my family came to our house for dessert since Ava wasn’t feeling well. I’m so thankful for Ice cream cake and crunchies. I didn’t snap a picture because I was too excited to eat it. It was such a TREAT!!!

What’s something yummy you ate this week?

Do you like carvel cakes?

Exercise Modifications During Pregnancy

I’m nearing the end of my 2nd trimester and I’ve been getting TONS of questions about my exercise lately.

I’m receiving questions daily about my workouts and how long I will continue to workout while I’m pregnant. The truth is I don’t really have an answer. My goal is to continue up until the end (like I did with Ava) but that will depend on how I feel and if my doctor approves.

IMG_9838

I have found exercise to be not only a great energy booster, but it helps my mood, it helped with my nausea in the first trimester, and I just feel better when I’m active!

There were things that I did avoid or adjust to accommodate my changing body and also to keep the baby as safe as possible.

Things I avoided during pregnancy:

  • After the first trimester I avoided lying flat on your back.It effects blood flow to and from the heart.
  • I avoided exercising in rooms that had higher temperatures or if I was training outdoors I was conscious of the temperatures or heat index. I always wear comfortable clothing and not anything too tight.

Things I adjusted while exercising during pregnancy

  • Keep a water bottle around at all times.
  • adjust core training by doing ab exercises on an incline bench.
  • Reduce intensity. Instead of going 110%, I scaled back so that I could still sweat but not become exhausted.
  • At each appointment I discussed exercise with my doctor.
  • In my case I am the instructor but if I took a class I would definitely listen to any advice or suggestions my instructor had.
  • Adjust range of motion and remember your flexibility and ligaments are looser during pregnancy don’t over stretch.
  • Adjust jumping and twisting exercises. Instead of Jumping Jacks I will do single leg step outs and still use my arms.

My list is constantly changing and there are definitely things that feel comfortable one day and not the next so most importantly I’m listening to my body and doing what I feel is best!

Did you exercise when you were pregnant?

What exercises did you avoid?
